The importance of spelling...

Yesterday I was talking to a co-worker about how years ago I wanted to be a writer, and were discussing all the things that go into writing.  I'd just started to say that my desire probably came from reading so many books when I was younger, when I was interrupted by someone at work who came in and handed me the following letter... On official letterhead, even.... (I took the letter from the man and started reading it out loud to everyone standing nearby until I started laughing too hard )
enjoy.

Some people should really give up their careers and go to college.
Also, probably don't sign up for month to mouth contracts. sounds iffy to me.

I recently had surgery on my shoulder and was out of the office for about two weeks. I returned yesterday to this amazing decor! The best part was that I just went to the Owl City concert. I think I might leave this decor up forever.

4th of July

My college held a really fun 4th of July celebration! Dad, Rebecca and I went to eat some yummy food and enjoy some music and amazing fireworks.

We made a brief stop at Baskin Robbins because I am pretty certain that it was one million and two degrees outside.

After the snack, we walked over to the stadium to enjoy the fantastic concert!

David Archuleta...so cute! Mom gave Rebecca permission to date him.

Brad Paisley!!! Loved it all!

Thanks for the tickets, Mom!

I leave in less than two weeks on a trip with college colleagues. Yeah! In preparation, we are getting together for lunch a few days before we leave to discuss important travel topics. The lunch organizer recently sent out this email to the lunch group:

If there are any spouses, future or potential spouses, or sibling/spouses coming, we’d be happy to add them to the count as well.

In addition, the final list of discussion topics are in:
· Is Lady Luck a true random pick of people in our class?
· Does Tab actually taste good?
· Should we be paying rent to the college since we practically live here?
· How do you avoid bed bugs at 5 star hotels around the world
Please come with a 2 page write-up of one of the above points.

In response, another colleague wrote:

In addition to bed bugs, someone needs to write a one page (front and back) report on a more personal topic. Given the long flights we all will be taking, someone needs to research and write up the etiquette associated with passing gas while on the plane. Recycled air is bad enough without the inclusion of personal emissions.

Teacher: Well, you have been a great class! Thanks again, I have enjoyed teaching you.

Me: If I pack my backpack slowly, maybe Mr. Handsome will stop by my desk on his way out the door. Pack slowly, pack slowly…oh, wait, he is done packing and is putting on his coat…pack faster!! OK, OK, stay calm, he is coming this way.

Mr. Handsome: Hi Melinda

Me: Hi! He knows my name?! I’m suddenly drawing a blank on his first name…all I can think of is Mr. Handsome!! Mayday! Mayday!

Mr. Handsome: So, how do you like the color of the bag that the college gave you? It’s practically glow-in-the-dark!

Me: I know, crazy, huh? I like the darker color of your bag better. Can’t I come up with something more clever? Hurry, pick a topic that can have a longer conversation thread.

Mr. Handsome: Yeah, I guess your bag is closer to the old school colors, but still…

Me: True, but it won’t ever get lost with these bright colors, haha.

Mr. Handsome’s teammate: Hey man, you comin’ to our study group?

Mr. Handsome: Yeah

Me: Say something witty! Quick! Or tie him up with my neon bag straps and take him home!

Another classmate: So, Melinda, you glad to be done with the class?

Me: Yep, this class topic isn’t my greatest strength. Oh NO! Mr. Handsome is leaving with his team.

Another classmate: Yeah, I am glad to move on.

Me: *sigh* No more class with Mr. Handsome.

What do I do now??

Dear Mr. Handsome,

These assigned seats are to my disadvantage. 1) I can’t change locations so that I can work my way towards your seat and 2) I remain distracted in my current location due to your current location…you are between my chair and the professor’s PowerPoint. OK, OK, so I don’t really mind a good-looking distraction. If fact, I look forward to it. I especially look forward to when someone asks a question from my side of the room so that you turn around.

I could tell you were trying to talk to me today. I noticed when you wandered by my seat several times, even though it is out of your way. And I certainly noticed when you were hanging around the group of people I sat with during lunch. You’re going to have to step up your game though. I mean, another classmate brought me a gift today and he said he picked it out because it matched my laptop. He also helped me one-on-one when I had questions about class work. Granted, he does sit directly in front me, so his current assigned seat is somewhat to his advantage.

I hope I broke the ice when I chatted with you briefly during a break. I’ll take my time packing up my things when class is over today. Stop by.

Until then,

Me
